Antonia Loizou

Antonia Loizou will be presenting a Masterclass on the life and works of Victor Ioannides, the well-known Cypriot painter whose work chronicles life in Cyprus from the 1920s to 1980.

Antonia Loizou has a distinguished career in education and cultural preservation. Currently serving as an Inspector at Secondary General Education in Cyprus with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, Loizou is responsible for History Education and is an active member of various international cultural and historical committees, including the Steering Committee of the Council of Europe History Observatory and the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

 

Her background includes serving as the Curator at the Pierides Foundation Museum from 1983 to 1991, where she participated in significant archaeological excavations with the University of Lyon. Loizou’s academic achievements include a PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, focusing on the work of artist Georgios Pol. Georgiou, and her extensive research on Cypriot art.

 

In addition to her curatorial roles, Loizou has organized numerous art exhibitions both in Cyprus and abroad, including the International Exhibition Sculpture and Object XVII and "No Words" at the Larnaca Municipal Gallery. She has also authored and contributed to several books on Cypriot art and artists, such as "Cypriot Artists, The Second Generation" and "Fifty Years of the Republic of Cyprus Engraved by Cypriots".
