ART.Cy is delighted to highlight the work of Vasileia Anaxagorou, a Cyprus-based artist and researcher whose multidisciplinary practice bridges fine art, politics, and feminist theory.
With an academic background spanning multiple disciplines, Vasileia holds a BA (Hons) in Politics from the University of Nottingham, an MA in History from Goldsmiths College, a BFA in Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and an MFA in Fine Art (Distinction) from the University of Oxford. Currently, she is pursuing her doctoral research at the University of Cyprus, where she examines Cypriot feminist subjectivities through the works of Lia Haraki and Arianna Economou. Her research delves into the concept of the “seascape of trauma” in Cyprus and its intersection with performance and visual arts.
Her recent academic publication, “Building Resilience: The (New?) Politics of Grief and Mourning at the Time of the Pandemic in Contemporary Art Practices”, published in The International Journal of Social, Political, and Community Agendas in the Arts, explores the politicization of grief and its impact on migrants and refugees through visual representations that challenge dominant narratives.
Anaxagorou’s artistic practice spans painting, writing, moving images, and performance, consistently engaging with themes rooted in feminist and queer theory. Her work has been showcased in international group exhibitions across London, New York, Portugal, Athens, and Cyprus, alongside four solo exhibitions in Cyprus.
Stay tuned for more updates on her latest projects and exhibitions at ART.Cy!
