ART.Cy is pleased to share exciting news for Cyprus’ cultural landscape: the European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved a €72 million loan to support the construction of the new Cyprus Archaeological Museum in Nicosia. This state-of-the-art museum will be a landmark for the country, preserving and showcasing its rich archaeological heritage while contributing to urban regeneration and cultural tourism.

The new museum will feature modern exhibition spaces equipped with cutting-edge technology to enhance the presentation of Cyprus’ history, from the Neolithic period to the Christian era. Additionally, it will include dedicated areas for research, education, and public engagement, strengthening Cyprus’ role in the global archaeological and cultural dialogue. The project also includes a 20,000 sqm landscaped public square, transforming the heart of Nicosia into a vibrant cultural hub.

“This is the most significant cultural initiative for Cyprus,” said Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos. “The museum will not only revitalize our historical narrative but also create a dynamic cultural, recreational, and social hub in the heart of our capital.” Minister of Transport, Communications & Works Alexis Vafeades echoed this sentiment, stating, “For many years, it has been the state’s vision to establish a museum that honors our archaeological past with dignity and accessibility.”

The museum is set for completion by 2029 and is expected to become a key destination for both locals and international visitors, strengthening Cyprus’ position in the global cultural landscape.
