The third-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus is located at the crossroads of some of the most fascinating civilizations in history.
To the east, the Mesopotamian rivers gave rise to the earliest record of human civilization in the 10th Millenium BC. To the south, Egypt rose to become the pre-eminent civilization from the fourth Millenium BC. To the northeast, the Mycenean and Minoan cultures created the first seeds of Geometric, Archaic and Classical cultures, later overtaken by Rome.
Human civilization in Cyprus dates back to the Neolithic period, from 8900 BC. Our long history includes Mycenean and Minoan civilizations, Archaic and Classical Greece, Hellenistic and Roman Periods, Byzantium, Venetian and Ottoman periods, and finally British rule and independence.
These cultures have all influenced the art, language and cultural fabric of the Island.
To honour this history and achievement, we have decided to launch a conference and exhibition dedicated to the art and culture of Cyprus, and to accompany this with activities occurring throughout the year.
Our inaugural conference takes place at the Amara Hotel in Limassol on 11-12 April 2025.
Please join us in celebrating 11,000 years of art, history and human achievement on this beautiful island we call home.
