We are honoured to announce that paintings from the renown Cypriot artist, Victor Ioannides, will be displayed at ART.Cy by his family foundation.

Victor Ioannides, born in Limassol in 1903, was a prominent Cypriot painter known for his innovative techniques and significant contributions to the art scene. Early in his life, Ioannides showed talent in both painting and music. After working briefly in accounting, he pursued his passion for art, studying at the Higher Faculty of Fine Arts in Athens from 1923 to 1929.

His works, influenced by Impressionism, include landscapes, seascapes, and portraits. Ioannides developed a unique painting technique involving chemical mixtures that gave his works a porcelain-like finish. He was a pioneer in Cypriot art, holding 22 solo exhibitions and participating in numerous group exhibitions worldwide.

His art spans the tumultuous 20th Century as Cyprus made the transition from a largely agrarian to an urban society, and from a British Colony to an independent state. His paintings reflect another, perhaps forgotten era from Cyprus, an altogether more human scale.

His legacy includes several accolades and his works are held in various prestigious collections and museums. He passed away on June 6, 1984.
