Victor IOANNIDES
(1903-1984)
Victor Ioannides is a prominent Cypriot painter in the mid- to late-20th Century. His career spanned the era when Cyprus was a British Colony, and extended into Independence and the early 1980s.
His work reveals the innocent landscapes, urban scenes and portraits of a traditional Cyprus that was in many ways pre-industrial: a time of traditional pursuits and occupations.
It is a time far gone in present-day Limassol, with its traffic and skyscrapers and expensive restaurants. And yet, one can still glimpse scenes from a bygone Cyprus in Limassol today, and Victor Ioannides' paintings reminds us of that.
Several of his paintings will generously be displayed by his family at ART.Cy 2025 in Limassol.
